Lash Artist Training

The Lash Trend

Long lashes are a beauty trend that draws attention to the eyes. Like they say, beauty is in the “eye” of the beholder. Long lashes create a wakeful look. Eyelash extensions are designed to extend the length, curl and fullness of natural eyelashes. They are made of silk, mink or synthetic mink material (Reid, 2019). They are attached to the natural eyelash with a specially formulated lash extension adhesive.  Lash extensions are available in different lengths, widths and curls, as well as different colours. Classic lash extensions come in both standard (round) or flat (ellipse) styles. For volume lashes there are volume fans (handmade) or premade volume clusters. Other options for fuller lashes include false strip lashes or temporary volume clusters.

Lash extensions have become very popular, making this career a very exciting and fun opportunity. The lash industry is constantly growing and developing. Staying up to date with new products, techniques and services is incredibly important if you wish to have a successful career.

What are Lash Lifts?

Lash lifts have become very popular, making this career a very exciting and fun opportunity. Long lashes are a beauty trend that draws attention to the eyes. Like they say, beauty is in the “eye” of the beholder! Long lashes also create a wakeful look.  Lash lifts are designed to extend the length and curl of natural eyelashes. It is a low-maintenance lash perm that lifts & enhances a client’s natural lashes for up to 6-8 weeks! The lash industry is constantly growing and developing. Staying up to date with current/new products, techniques and services is incredibly important to have a successful career.

A lash lift and tint treatment is a popular cosmetic procedure that helps to enhance the appearance of the natural eyelashes. This treatment involves perming and lifting the lashes to give them a more defined and curled look, while also tinting them to make them appear darker and more voluminous.

During a lash lift and tint treatment, the technician will first apply a lifting solution to the lashes, which helps to curl them upwards and give them a more lifted appearance. This solution is left on for a specific amount of time, depending on the desired level of lift, before being removed. The next step is to tint the lashes, which involves applying a dye to the lashes to make them appear darker and more noticeable.

One of the main benefits of a lash lift and tint treatment is that it can help to make the eyes appear more open and awake, without the need for mascara or lash extensions. The results can last for several weeks, making it a low-maintenance option for those looking to enhance their natural lashes.

Overall, a lash lift and tint treatment can be a great way to add definition and volume to the lashes, while also saving time on daily makeup routines. It is a popular choice for those looking to enhance their natural beauty with minimal effort.

Microblading Certifications

The Microblading Artist Course Training is available for $1400 + hst. Currently, the course is being offered in St. Catharines.

Microblading is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing technique used to enhance the appearance of eyebrows. During a typical microblading session, a trained technician uses a fine blade to deposit pigment under the skin in hair-like strokes that mimic natural eyebrow hairs. This creates a more defined and fuller eyebrow shape, filling in gaps or sparse areas.

Microblading offers a natural and long-lasting solution for individuals with thin or overplucked eyebrows. The results typically last between 1 to 3 years, depending on individual factors such as skin type and aftercare.

Before undergoing microblading, it is important to consult with a qualified and experienced technician to ensure the best results. Aftercare instructions, such as avoiding certain activities like swimming or excessive sweating, are usually provided to help maintain the longevity of the treatment.

Overall, microblading can be a great way to achieve natural-looking, fuller eyebrows without the need for daily makeup application.

The Microblading Artist Course

The Microblading Artist Course Training Overview: Now Open | Beauty Certification Programs

Microblading is the semi‐ permanent, cosmetic tattoo procedure to fill in sparse eyebrows. Perfect eyebrows create symmetry to the face and enhance natural beauty. They add shape and fullness to the face giving it a youthful and uplifted look. Microblading creates the impression of a fuller, natural eyebrow.

The Microblading Artist Course

NAE provides a Microblading Artist course which goes into detail on Health and Safety, Business Tips, Microblading Tool Kit, Skin Anatomy, Blades, Pigments, The Microblading Process, Practice Questions, Document Guides and Key terms. This 20-hour course will also involve shadowing a microblading procedure, practical experience and a practical exam to receive the Microblade Artist Certificate.

Microblading Health and Safety

Heath and Safety must be at the top of the microblade technician’s priorities. Microblading is an invasive procedure and the artist is puncturing the client’s skin. If the microblading tools or work area is not properly cleaned and sanitized, there is risk of transmitting diseases and infections. Microblading can lead to infections with blood-borne pathogens including Hepatitis B (HBV), Hepatitis C (HCV), Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), human retroviruses, bacteria and pathogens (Anton, Chris, McClellan, Debbie, Lousisi, Barbara, 2018).

Public Health routine inspections are required for all microblade artists at least once a year. It is important to contact Public Health prior to beginning servicing clients to make sure the work station and tools are up to their standard. To contact your Public Health branch call 647- 260-7100. Proper training, knowledge and constantly practicing health and safety are important for the client and artist’s well being. Our courses teach Health and Safety, allergic reactions, proper requirements for microblading, cross contamination and bloodborne pathogens. Our courses are based off the Infection Prevention and Control Best Practices for Personal Services Settings by Public Health.

The Rise in the Canadian Beauty Industry

By Kalleigh Sharp | January 23rd, 2020

NAE operates in the beauty industry. Canada ranks number 1 globally with a $1.4 billion dollar beauty market (Berencsi 2014). “Being a global leader in the sales of makeup shows the industry is capitalizing on the evolving and diverse needs of the beauty consumer, which bodes well for sustained category growth.” (Berencsi 2014).

Economic Growth

The Canadian beauty industry grew by +9.4 per cent in 2017(Berencsi 2014). Leading growth drivers included the makeup (+8.1 % to $485 Million), skincare a (+12% to $409 Million) and fragrance at (+7.6% to $239 Million) (Berencsi 2014).  The value of the cosmetics market in Canada is expected to reach around 15.8 billion U.S. dollars in 2021, an increase of almost three billion U.S. dollars from five years previously (Bedford 2018).

Forbes on the Beauty Industry

According to Forbes, there is at least 40 prominent beauty start ups today founded by women, making the $445 billion industry one of the most prevalent places for women to self-start their way to big-time success (Kestenbaum 2018). “It's never been a better time to be a beauty entrepreneur” (Kestenbaum 2018). The three driving factors in the beauty industry include:

  1. Consumers: enjoy trying new instagrammable products and brands.
  2. Young independent brands and entrepreneurship: providing unique services and brand new ideas.
  3. Acquisitions by the major beauty companies of smaller companies are drawing in more founders and driving creativity.

Jennifer Hessel at L'Oreal

Jennifer Hessel, an industry consultant and L’Oreal describes four of the fastest growing trends:

  1. The instant fix: instant gratification received after a beauty service.
  2. The doll look: using heavy makeup or surgery to create a look is more porcelain look.
  3. Natural skin care products: the skin category continues to expand with more natural, clean products.
  4. Customization and personalization: using data and customer input to create individualised products as a form of luxury.

In Canada, there were more than 3,100 cosmetics, beauty supplies and perfume stores in 2016 (Bedford 2018). In the past, the focus of a beauty salon was on hair styling or nail salons. As new services develop, beauty salons expand in services. For example, there is an increase in eyelash extension and eyebrow bars. NAE predicts that as new services arrive, there will be an increase in beauty salons as a “one stop beauty shop”.

NAE looks forward to being an industry leader providing education across the beauty industry.

National Association of Estheticians Company History

It can be tough to find someone to run a company with but Marysa and Kalleigh are lucky! Both directors of NAE are entrepreneurs and estheticians. Kalleigh’s company, NV Beauty Boutique focuses on promoting cosmetic services. Marysa’s company is a successful beauty salon in Thorold. Her salon provides eyelash and skin care services. Kalleigh provided client referrals to Marysa for a small fee. During a meeting in June 2019, the women discussed the lack of affordable quality training courses in the area. They researched several beauty colleges which were either located in Toronto or expensive with low content or student support. The women partnered together to form the National Association of Estheticians Inc. Both entrepreneurs have their own strengths and are from different backgrounds.
